Calico County in Fort Smith Great Country Atmosphere 4 Minivans

2401 South 56th
Fort Smith, AR 72903
On a recent trip to Fort Smith, good friends of mine introduced me to this jewel of a breakfast spot. Walking in, we were instantly greeted with a warm and friendly atomosphere. When the waitress handed out our menus, I was so excited to read this on the front cover!
"Wives, mothers, and grandmothers have been preparing delicious home cooked American food for over 200 years. Today's lifestyle does not always allow these fine women to prepare the kind of meals you prefer. We, at Calico County, have reached back to those early days to create again all the natural goodness that you have come to expect in your own homes."
At this point, I was REALLY hoping the food was good, because I wanted to really like this place! Thankfully, I was not disappointed! The breakfast was really good! I was especially impressed with the biscuits as they were light and fluffy. Also, the ham and bacon were very good quality. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that after you order, they bring complimentary HOMEMADE Cinnamon rolls! So don't over order...because you will have to eat one of those! Yum! If back in this area, this will definitely be my breakfast stop!
Java Primo Delicious andBeautiful 4&1/2 Minivan Rating
My mom and I had the opportunity to have lunch at Java Primo friday afternoon. I had eaten their several times, but my mom had not, and I really wanted to share this little jewel with her. She ordered the grilled chicken salad ($6.95) and I ordered the Waterpine salad--see picture on home page--for $8.25. Mom had the sweet tea, which she said was "absolutely perfect." I had the sugar free peach tea. They have flavored syrups they add to the teas, and mine was really good, too! The salads were soon brought to the table, and they were absolutely beautiful.
This was my first salad, as I have ordered their sandwiches in the past, and I was not disappointed. It was wonderful! The only drawback is that the dining area is small, so if you go at a busy time it might be hard to find a table. They serve breakfast, although I have only had lunch there.
They also have an incredible selection of homemade desserts and gelatos. In my opinion it is the best place to eat in the area out by the Hot Springs Mall, by far! Give it a try! **UPDATE** I had the pineapple gelato on Friday night. It was awesome!
Greg's Rise and Dine "I want to be a regular here!" 4 minivan rating (awesome food on a budget!)

1739 Airport Rd
Hot Springs, AR 71913
This morning was my second time to try this place. The first time, I ordered the pancakes, and I did not like them too much. They came out way too brown in my opinion. However, David loved his order of eggs and sausage. So I decided to give it a second chance. I really like to eat somewhere twice before giving an opinion. Today I ordered the Denver Omelette, which came with home fries or hashbrowns and biscuit and gravy or toast. I opted for the home fries, and they added cheese and onion to mine, and the biscuit and gravy. I was very pleased! I love a good omelette, and in my opinion there aren't too many places in Hot Springs with really good omelets. This passed the test with flying colors! Now, it wasn't the prettiest omelette I have every seen, but the taste certainly made up for it! I also liked the biscuit and gravy, and the potatoes. And they brought me some homemade salsa to go with it that was fabulous. SCORE!!! And all for less that $6! With this great price, I have to give it a 4 minivan rating. I love good food at an economical price. :) So, now my goal is to be a regular here--especially since this place is about 5 minutes from my house and it is very easy on the pocketbook! They are only open until noon on weekends, though. So be sure and rise up early if you are going to do weekend breakfast here. They are open for breakfast and lunch on weekdays.
Smokey Mountain Grille and Rib Shack Tom and Michelle give it 3 & 1/2 Minivans

Mendenhall, Mississippi
Special Guest Review--I received a text from a friend today while she was on her way to the beach (without me) and she wanted a guest spot on the review wall to talk about a barbeque place they had discovered at lunch.
"We give it a 3 1/2 minivan rating. My pulled pork sandwhich plate was on the $5.99 lunch special and included a drink. Tom's cole slaw was made with sweet pickles. BBQ sauce had a light and sweet vinegar base to it. Overall...yum!"
So, there you go! A reasonably priced yummy lunch spot on the way to the beach. Thanks Michelle!

Razorback Pizza "Good pizza and lots of fun!" 3 & 1/2 Minivan rating

4330 Central Ave Hot Springs
The guys in my family had been trying to get me out to Razorback Pizza for several weeks, and a couple of weekends ago I finally gave in. You see, I am not a huge pizza fan. I worked at a pizza place as a teenager, and well....I guess I got a bit burned out on pizza. :) And honestly, most of the time it's like if you have had one pizza, you have had them all... Now there are exceptions in my memory bank of culinary experiences, but not too many. (I will always remember a margherita pizza in Sante Fe, NM) But, here goes. I was actually very pleasantly surprised when I first walked into Razorback Pizza because it is located in a shopping center, and I didn't exactly expect the best atmosphere. Boy, was I wrong! There was very nice bar, and an awesome large outdoor patio area with chairs and baggo games set up for play. Our waiter was very friendly, and all the staff seemed very welcoming. And the pizza..well...it was good. We ordered the equivalent of a supreme, and one of their specialty cheese pizzas called "The Triplett." And I have to admit, I really enjoyed both, although the Triplett was my favorite. I would definitely recommend this to my friends, especially since it was recommended to me by my friends! The pizza lovers in my family really love this place, and for me...well, ya...I actually thought it was pretty good, and with great atmosphere as a bonus!
Shangri La Resort "Worth the drive for the pie!" 5 Minivan rating

Shangri La Resort on Lake Ouachita
On the shores of beautiful Lake Ouachita sits the family friendly resort and cafe that serves up homemade cream pies that will knock your socks off! While the coconut cream is my husband's favorite, their are many more to choose from. They regularly serve lemon, butterscotch, banana cream, peanut butter, and chocolate. LOVE the chocolate! And there are no pre-made crusts for these delicious delights, they are all hand made in the wee hours of each morning. They also offer fruit pies in blueberry, cherry, and dutch apple. While these are good, I am still partial to those meringue covered cream dreams! It's a great place to grab a cheeseburger and some onion rings, but ALWAYS save room for the pie. In fact, just go for the pie! And here is a tip. Always order the pie first, or they might be sold out before you finish your meal!

Gus's Fried Chicken " Ethel, hurry up and get the keys!" 5 Minivan rating

310 S Front St
Memphis, TN downtown.
Featured on the travel channel and #1 on tripadvisor in Mempis, Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken has been on our food bucket list for quite some time. We finally had the opportunity to visit this little "hole-in-the-wall" chicken place on Friday. I was sure it would be good but being from Arkansas I have had some good fried chicken. I ordered the two piece white meat dinner for $6--loved the price! David and Jared chose the dark meat for $7. Tyler ordered chicken tenders?? Not sure what he was thinking! It was served on styrofoam plates with slaw and beans. Slaw was good, beans were okay. The chicken was laying on top of a piece of white bread, and the first thing I noticed was there was no grease on the bread. In case you missed that--fried chicken sitting on white bread and No greasy stuff on the bread! I was instantly intrigued! Then I took a bite.....and Yes, it really is that good! It was like biting into a big juicy dream! Wow! Somehow they get that batter perfectly sealed around that chicken! It was incredibly moist and full of flavor! Had just a hint of a spicy kick--but not at all what you would call spicy hot. There was not one piece of anything left on our plates (except for Tyler's) except very bare bones. The sweet tea tasted like my mama's, too. We talked about how good it was all the way home! We are planning our next trip soon!
Dizzy's Gypsy Bistro"Great place if you are close by" 4 Minivan rating

200 S Commerce St Suite 150 Little Rock, AR
A good friend of ours had a painting in an art show in Little Rock last night, and after it was over we all decided to celebrate with dinner. Dizzy's was an advertised sponsor of the gallery walk, so we chose to give the place a try. I did not realize at the time that it was the same Dizzy's that used to be in Benton. It was Friday night around 8pm, and while there was a small line, we did not wait over 10 minutes to be seated. The atmosphere was very nice. They were participating in the art showing so there were pieces hanging all over the restaurant. The lighting was dim, but not too dark. The waitress suggested we try to cheese dip since it won the "Best Cheese Dip" and "Most Innovative Cheese Dip" in the World Championship Cheese Dip Competition. Well, it was hard to argue with that logic...so we ordered the cheese dip. It was actually very good, although the three teenage boys at our table inhaled it so quickly that we only got to sample a bit. David and I shared the Keeter Chicken Mushroom Ravioli, and our friends ordered the Low Carb Selection, (That was actually the name on the menu...not too creative.) Basically, it was a piece of hamburger steak or chicken (your choice) with a bunch of grilled vegetables on top. Our pasta was really good, and the same was said about the other entree. It was a bit pricey...about $15.99 per dinner entree. There were sandwiches on the menu that were about $9. The service was good, and the people were friendly.
It also had a patio for outdoor dining. All in all, it was a nice dinner to end a pleasant evening. I will give it a 4 Minivan rating. It was really good, and would definitely eat there again, especially if I am in the downtown area, but not something I would drive out of my way to find. However, I would recommend it, and it is definitely worth a try.
